What started as a simple motorcycle ride through the rural roads of Sierra de los Padres ended up becoming an unforgettable story for Leonardo Albarracín and his son Ramiro. Both set out hoping to run into Emiliano “Dibu” Martínez, who has a farm in the area, but they never imagined they would end up helping the Argentine national team goalkeeper out of a complicated situation in the middle of the mud.

The heavy rains had left the roads practically impassable. Martínez had tried to help a friend whose truck had gotten stuck, but ended up having the same fate. “My son told me: ‘That’s Dibu, dad.’ I couldn’t believe it,” Albarracín recalled. Father and son approached to greet him and immediately joined the rescue. Leonardo used a knife to cut the knots of the ropes, while the rest of his family brought a shovel and another tow cable. Even the goalkeeper himself went to his house to get a small tractor that proved decisive.
After more than three hours of work, they managed to get both trucks out. “He told us that we had saved him,” Leonardo said, highlighting the simplicity of the world champion. “Dibu’s human quality is impressive. We didn’t talk about the World Cup or football. It was a normal conversation, as if we had known each other for a long time,” he recounted about the meeting with the Aston Villa goalkeeper.
When everything seemed over, the most emotional moment arrived. Albarracín took the opportunity to ask him to sign an Argentine national team jersey and a poster of the historic save against Randal Kolo Muani in the Qatar 2022 final. Martínez agreed with a smile and, when he was already saying goodbye, he turned back, took off the official Albiceleste jacket, and gave it to him. “I couldn’t hold back there. I started crying. It was an unforgettable moment,” confessed Leonardo, protagonist of a story that shows that sometimes heroes also need to be rescued.
