Jacy Maranhao went from euphoria to worry in a matter of seconds. The captain of Coritiba thought he had scored the 2-0 against Chapecoense and, carried away by emotion, decided to celebrate in a particular way: he placed the ball under his shirt and ran towards one of the stands to dedicate the goal to his family.

The defender reached the advertising board and jumped over it without noticing that behind it the access to the locker room tunnel was open. Maranhao fell into the void and disappeared from the broadcast. The scene caused immediate concern among his teammates and the medical staff, who quickly came to assist him.
But the story took an even more unexpected turn. While the player was receiving assistance, the referee reviewed the play through VAR and determined that Maranhao was offside. The supposed 2-0 was annulled and the captain of Coritiba ended up paying a high price for a goal celebration that ultimately did not count on the scoreboard.

The defender suffered an ankle injury and had to leave the field. However, the injury was not believed to be serious. Later, Maranhao was seen on the bench with ice on the affected area, while watching his teammates finish securing the 2-1 victory.
The unusual scene quickly went viral in Brazilian football. Additionally, the episode brought to mind a similar accident that occurred in the same stadium in 2014, when another player fell during a celebration.
Despite the scare, Coritiba ended up taking the three points in Brazil’s Serie B. Maranhao’s team is in 13th place in the standings, with 25 points after 20 matches, still far from the promotion spots and needing to keep adding points to move away from the bottom of the table.
IT HAPPENED AGAIN! 😂⚽
