Kazakh Elena Rybakina won the US Open for the first time after defeating Aryna Sabalenka in the final, who was seeking to become a three-time consecutive champion of the prestigious tournament held in New York.

Elena Rybakina, who will rise to the top of the world rankings next Monday, defeated Sabalenka 6-4, 5-7, and 6-2, also ending the Belarusian’s dominance at Flushing Meadows.
With this victory, the Kazakh achieved her second Grand Slam of the year, after winning the Australian Open, while adding three major trophies thanks also to her Wimbledon conquest in 2022.
Sabalenka, who had been undefeated in twenty matches at Flushing Meadows, reacted after losing the first set and won the second set by breaking Rybakina’s powerful serve for the first time just before the tiebreak.

However, Rybakina maintained surprising composure and sealed the match in the third set against a frustrated Sabalenka, who broke her racket while sitting in her chair as the crowd celebrated the Kazakh.
The victory represents a change of command in women’s tennis, as Sabalenka had dominated since October 2024. The Belarusian will close her first season without major titles since 2022, after losing two finals to Rybakina.
