The day Lima stopped: the 1974 earthquake that marked an entire generation | PHOTOS

On October 3, 1974, Lima experienced one of the most destructive earthquakes of the 20th century. The violent movement shook the capital and hit the south of Lima especially hard, leaving a toll of death, destruction, and thousands of affected people. More than five decades later, the earthquake recorded in Colombia on August 10, 2026 (and previously Venezuela on June 24) reminds us once again of the vulnerability of cities to these natural phenomena and the need to maintain a permanent culture of prevention and preparedness.
