Rocco Gualtieri specified the details of the arrival and departure of the bishop of Rome. “He will be here, arriving on the afternoon of November 11 and leaving on the afternoon of the 16th, not the 17th”, he detailed to the press this Friday.

The original plan contemplated a seven-day stay on Peruvian soil. The new schedule responds to the official agenda that the holy father will fulfill in the Vatican, where his presence is required mandatorily on November 17.

The papal delegation will maintain the tour through the different regions of the country despite the reduced length of stay. The cities of Lima, Chiclayo, Cusco, and Pucallpa will receive the pontiff, who will celebrate large masses and meetings with the civilian population of these jurisdictions.

Meanwhile, the Peruvian Episcopal Conference promotes the call for national volunteers who will provide logistical assistance, first aid, and translation. The organizers expect the participation of thousands of citizens to guarantee security and order at each regional liturgical event.

Expectations in Peru for Leo XIV’s activities

This trip represents the third historic opportunity in which a pontiff sets foot on Peruvian soil. Previously, John Paul II visited the country in 1985 and 1988, while Francis did so in 2018 before millions of faithful.

The official itinerary that pope Leo XIV will have during his stay in Peru is still awaited. It is only known that he will visit Lima, Chiclayo, Juliaca, and Cusco during his tour of the country.
