A magnitude 4.5 earthquake shook the coast of the Ica region during the early hours of Saturday, September 12. The seismic event occurred exactly at 3:46 a.m. according to official information provided by the National Seismological Center of the Geophysical Institute of Peru (IGP).

The official seismic report located the epicenter 101 kilometers southwest of the city of Ica within the territorial scope of Ica. The instruments of the national monitoring system determined a depth of 21 kilometers for this phenomenon in the waters of the Pacific Ocean.
The seismic movement reached an intensity of degree III on the modified Mercalli scale within the city of Ica. This means that residents in the coastal area of the region south of Lima felt the earthquake in the middle of the night.

The authorities of the Regional Emergency Operations Center evaluated the areas near the epicenter after the seismic event. Preliminary inspections by safety inspectors confirmed the absence of injured persons or material damage to public infrastructure.
The Geophysical Institute of Peru maintains permanent monitoring of the geodynamic activity occurring on the Peruvian coast. The automated stations of the seismic network continuously collect data for the analysis of the continent’s tectonic processes.
The National Tsunami Warning Center of the Peruvian Navy ruled out that the seismic event posed a tsunami risk. So far, no additional material or personal damages have been reported.

A magnitude 3.5 tremor alarmed the population of Lima during the afternoon of Friday, September 11, 2026. This earlier seismic movement occurred at 5:47 p.m. with a focus located 52 kilometers deep underground.
