América Móvil, through Claro Perú, buys WOW: this is how the fiber optic company was doing in the Peruvian market and these were its plans

-At the close of the third quarter, according to Osiptel’s Punku application, WOW Peru ranked third in the fixed Internet market. How do you see the situation at the end of 2025?

We have done a very good job in the almost six years [we have been operating in the country], in many areas. There are two important parts to mention. First, we started to grow our network not in Lima, but in areas where we saw under-attention. We did it intentionally, because we observed a lack of infrastructure and a true value proposition in the Internet service for end consumers.

During that time in Peru, we have built more than 3.4 million homes passed (Internet coverage reach).

-Regarding active connections, in the third quarter they already had 776,329 users. How much do you think they can reach after the close of 2025?

Our growth rate seen [up to that period] continued the rest of the year, despite entering Lima, where competition is stronger and it is more difficult to fight for a client or subscriber.

I wouldn’t want to give an exact number or get ahead of myself, but we estimate that we will grow another 50,000 or 60,000 users [by the end of 2025].

-Do you think you can reach one million users this year or in the medium term?

I would love to have a million subscribers. Realistically looking at the subscriber growth rate, the competition, where we are, and how we are growing, I would say we have a very good chance of reaching a million subscribers and then competing for the top spot [in the market], but not in 2026 or 2027. It’s a longer-term issue, because we want to reach a million subscribers with a loyal base.

We don’t want to lower prices, reach a million subscribers, keep them for three months, and then lose them. We are taking very careful steps to grow our base and build loyalty. Every subscriber is an investment.

As with infrastructure and subscribers, the market is currently at a point where it makes sense for competitors to consolidate. We will continue to grow and connect subscribers, but we are also open to any type of strategic move. One million subscribers is a long-term goal.

-You are leaders in more than 10 regions of the country in fixed Internet. What will be your focus in areas where you have a high presence, such as Ica, Junín, or Lambayeque?

In the regions where we are leaders, we must maintain that leadership, because the market is competitive and players are very active. In Ica, where we started in 2020, we maintain a high level of market share, but we also see how the department grows. Based on that, we are deploying additional network where necessary and where there is high demand, performing an ‘upgrade’ to our current network.

We are also seeing this in Lambayeque, where we have been for three years, and in Junín, where we have been for almost a year and a half. The idea is to maintain our position, continue providing high-quality service, have a high level of customer service compared to the competition, grow, and update our networks.

-What plans does the company have for 2026? How much is expected to increase in the number of active connections?

We don’t have a graph with a specific goal. The main idea we have is that we have built a fairly large network, most of it is outside Lima and, in fact, outside the big cities. We are in more than 100 locations, in many of them the main objective is to use the network to provide service to the end user.

It’s not enough to be in different areas. We have to explain to people that they have access to high-level infrastructure and can use ultra-high-speed Internet from the moment it’s installed. The goal is to increase network usage by users.

-Is there any innovation proposal regarding speeds?

We have started with network ‘upgrades’. This is related to demand. If we see an increase in demand, traffic, or subscriber growth in the B2B (‘business to business’) segment, we will be making the necessary improvements.

We use GPON technology for end-users in the B2C (‘business to consumer’) segment and we present XGS-PON technology for the B2B market. Our job is to go from place to place to ensure it is available everywhere, build coverage, and improve the possibility of having access to it.

In terms of “homes passed” coverage, we are one of the largest networks in the country, and in terms of capacity, we are the largest. We are at a good point for market consolidation.

-In the case of the business market, how many clients do you have?

Initially, we only served the B2C market. We didn’t pay attention to the B2B segment until 2025, and that year we made great progress. We have a good team that has done very well in growing our B2B client base, which currently includes financial and educational institutions. In general, we have a very diverse portfolio.

I can confidently say that this is a growth point where we will continue to participate in the B2B segment, building or including large corporations in the portfolio, but also growing at the level of small and medium-sized businesses, in addition to including other solutions that the market requires.

This is one of the points we will focus on going forward.

-Last year, the State auctioned the spectrum band that allows the massification of 5G mobile Internet. Do you see this technology as competition for fiber optics or as a complement?

Fixed and wireless services complement each other in many ways. For us, the growth in demand for 5G-based services is good for the market, because the data consumed by end-users who use wireless services ultimately reaches a fixed network, where we are. Therefore, we encourage this type of market development.

-How much do you expect to grow in revenue in the 2025-2026 period?

We are growing year by year. We expect to grow between 20% and 25% compared to 2024 in terms of revenue and we want to continue at that same pace in the coming years.

-Similarly, how much do you expect to invest this new year?

Investment in the network and in the company’s growth, to date, exceeds S/1,000 million. We will continue to invest in the network and its quality, as we have not yet reached the peak of our growth.

This year we are aiming to invest between S/100 million and S/120 million.
