This alert aims to mitigate occupational risks associated with the extreme weather conditions expected in the coming months.
The entity recommended evaluating the conditions of facilities and workplaces considering the characteristics of each economic activity. Employers have the legal duty to ensure the safety and health of their workers through the implementation of controls against possible weather-related events.
The current context is defined by the maintenance of the “El Niño Costero Alert” status by Enfen, due to persistent thermal anomalies in the Pacific Ocean.

Among the actions suggested by Sunafil is the update of the Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, and Control Determination matrix (IPERC). This document should consider specific risks such as floods, overflows, heat stress, and power outages that could be intensified by the weather phenomenon.

Likewise, it urges conducting infrastructure inspections to verify the condition of roofs, drains, and evacuation systems. The review should include conditioning of electrical installations to prevent incidents caused by moisture and the provision of hydration points and shaded areas to prevent heat stress among workers.
Finally, Sunafil announced it will maintain preventive guidance actions throughout the country through its 26 regional superintendencies. Training personnel on emergency procedures and safe evacuation routes will be essential to protect the life and integrity of workers against the effects of El Niño.
Enfen Forecasts on El Niño Costero
According to the official statement from Enfen, it is likely that El Niño Costero will maintain a strong magnitude, without ruling out extraordinary levels towards the end of 2026 in the Niño 1+2 region. In the central equatorial Pacific, the phenomenon would also extend until April 2027, with very strong magnitudes between November and December of this year.
The predicted climatic impact for the July to September quarter includes air temperatures well above their usual values along the entire coast. For the 2026-2027 summer, forecasts indicate that precipitation will be above normal on the northern and central coast of the national territory.
