A fatal accident was recorded during the early hours of this Friday on the beach circuit of the Costa Verde, in the district of San Miguel. A woman died and a man was seriously injured after the car they were traveling in violently crashed into a streetlight pole.

According to preliminary investigations, the vehicle was heading towards Callao when a motorcycle allegedly cut it off. In this situation, the driver lost control of the car, veered off, and ended up crashing into the pole. The force of the collision was such that the vehicle was practically split in two.

The woman was traveling in the front passenger seat and died instantly due to the violence of the impact. Meanwhile, the driver suffered serious injuries and was urgently taken to a clinic, where he remains hospitalized with a reserved prognosis, while authorities continue gathering information to determine exactly how the accident occurred.
Firefighters and Police responded to the emergency
Three units of the Fire Department arrived at the scene to attend to the emergency, reported minutes before 12:30 a.m. this Friday.
Officers from the San Miguel Police Station established a perimeter in the area and carried out the first procedures to clarify the circumstances of the incident.

Authorities investigate if there were illegal street races
One of the hypotheses authorities are considering points to the accident possibly being related to the so-called illegal street races that usually take place at various points of the Costa Verde beach circuit.

However, this possibility is still under investigation and it will be necessary to determine if the motorcycle mentioned by police sources had direct involvement in the accident.
