The seismic movement strongly shook the Japanese capital and the surrounding region, triggering the public alarm system with announcements and sirens.
The Japan Meteorological Agency indicated that the tremor had its epicenter in the southern part of Ibaraki prefecture, near Tokyo, at 02:00 (17:00 GMT on Saturday).
