Junín: campaign seeks to build 50 emergency homes for families affected by earthquakes

More than 25 earthquakes recorded during July and August have left a deep mark on various communities in Junín, where numerous families have seen their homes destroyed or declared uninhabitable. In response to this emergency, Sombras Tejidas and ARQ PERÚ have decided to move from concern to action with an initiative that seeks to provide a concrete, rapid, and dignified solution to those who today need a safe place to live.

The project involves the construction of 50 emergency homes for 50 affected families in the areas of Chupaca, Chongos Bajos, and Pumpunya, using a lightweight, economical, modular, and quick-assembly construction system, designed to be implemented and later self-built by the communities themselves.

More than just erecting structures, the initiative aims to recover spaces of safety, protection, and hope for families who have practically lost everything.

The architectural proposal bets on an emergency system that allows optimizing resources and accelerating construction times, involving the beneficiary families themselves in the process.

Donations will help finance construction materials, training for families, foundations, structures, roofing, and enclosures, as well as essential items to make these spaces habitable, such as bunk beds, tables, chairs, and basic equipment.

Additionally, transportation of materials and resources to the affected areas is required, one of the main challenges to make the project a reality.

The initial goal is to build 50 emergency homes for 50 families. However, the campaign promoters want the project to grow as much as the solidarity of Peruvians allows.

“Each donation can become a wall, a roof, a bed, or simply the possibility for a family to feel safe again. We want to build homes, but also build an opportunity to start over.”

The campaign calls on companies, institutions, organizations, professionals, media, and citizens who want to join this initiative and help more families have a dignified and safe space.
