Universitario de Deportes defined the future of Alex Valera and reached an agreement with the forward to extend his contract until 2029. In this way, the 30-year-old attacker will continue defending the cream jersey with a clear goal: to keep making history and surpass the 100-goal barrier with the institution.

Sources from the club confirmed to El Comercio that Valera renewed for the next three years after expressing his desire to stay at Universitario. The forward aims to establish himself among the club’s all-time top scorers and leave an even greater mark after recent years, during which he became a key player for the team.
The attacker joined Universitario in 2021, then had a brief stint in Saudi Arabia and returned to the club in 2023. Wearing the cream jersey, he has accumulated 183 matches, 84 goals, and 23 assists. Additionally, he has already surpassed two club legends, Teodoro ‘Lolo’ Fernández and Roberto ‘Chale’, in the number of matches played and has caught up with Piero Alva on the scorers’ list with his 84 goals.

His last goal against FC Cajamarca allowed him to enter the top 10 all-time top scorers of Universitario, precisely tying Piero Alva. Now, Valera is just two goals away from Juan José Oré, while the absolute record remains in the hands of ‘Lolo’ Fernández, who leads the ranking with 161 goals.
With his renewal until 2029, Valera will have time to continue climbing positions and approach a figure that could mark a before and after in his history with Universitario. The forward was also the team’s top scorer on the way to the cream tricampeonato and now aims to become one of the institution’s great offensive references.
