Peruvian sonero Luchito Muñoz presents “Volver al Mañana,” his new album with the legendary band of Rubén Blades

The Peruvian sonero Luchito Muñoz announces the official release of “Volver al Mañana”, his new studio album that will arrive on May 29 on all digital platforms and in a special vinyl edition. The production marks an extraordinary event for contemporary salsa by bringing together historic members of Seis del Solar, the emblematic group that accompanied salsa legend Rubén Blades in one of the most revolutionary stages of the genre.

With a proposal that crosses advanced salsa, Latin jazz, timba, and hip hop, Muñoz presents an ambitious work that expands the traditional limits of tropical music.

More than a performer, Luchito Muñoz assumes here the role of sound architect: lead singer, arranger, composer, and instrumentalist. Together with Puerto Rican Jim Donato, who establishes himself as a composer to watch within the Latin music scene, he builds an album that bets on sophistication without losing the street and emotional pulse of salsa. The result is a work of eight tracks where virtuosity, narrative, and a contemporary view of the genre coexist.

One of the most transcendental moments of the album comes with “Llegando al Solar,” a track that brings together the legendary Oscar Hernández, Eddie Montalvo, and Robby Ameen, fundamental pillars of Seis del Solar and essential musicians in the sonic evolution of Rubén Blades.

The recording was born from the tribute written by Muñoz in 2022, later praised by Blades himself, thus generating an artistic connection that is now immortalized in the studio. The production also incorporates an emotional nod to bassist Mike Viñas and an evocation of the late Ralph Irizarry through the percussion of Jhair Sala.

The international dimension of the project is amplified with heavyweight names within Latin music and Afro-Cuban jazz. The renowned saxophonist Ed Calle —who has worked with Frank Sinatra, Celia Cruz, Gloria Estefan, and Juan Luis Guerra— shares credits alongside Cuban master Giraldo Piloto and percussionist Alexis Pututi. From Cuba also come the voices of Laraine Cañizares and Sada Walkiria, the latter also contributing powerful instrumental work as a cellist. They are joined by Peruvian talent Juan Luis “Percurey”, Cristian Romero, and Dennis Shapiama, reaffirming the high technical and artistic level of the production.

The album also finds space for sonic exploration. “Pa’ que me quieras” mixes Afro-American and Afro-Latin influences alongside American rapper Key Beaux and a gospel ensemble from Nigeria, while “Déjate Amar” incorporates the salsa identity of Peruvian master Tito Manrique and his group Cosa Nuestra.

In songs like “14 Rosas,” “Cómo, si antes,” and “Sé que aún tú me sueñas,” the album moves between romantic salsa, elegant timba, and jazz sensitivity with meticulous arrangements and a vocal interpretation full of intention.

This album represents years of musical search, admiration for the great masters, and the desire to create a salsa without limits, honoring tradition but looking forward,” says Luchito Muñoz. “Volver al Mañana is the result of an artistic brotherhood among musicians from different cultures and diverse ways of resolving the clave, who found a common language in this work.”

With musicians from Peru, Puerto Rico, Cuba, the United States, Mexico, Italy, Venezuela, Chile, and Nigeria, “Volver al Mañana” stands out as one of the most ambitious independent productions of contemporary Latin American salsa.

More than an album, the project functions as an artistic statement about the present and future of the genre, also leaving open the possibility of a forthcoming international tour that would have Peru as its starting point.
