The growth of specialty coffee shops has driven greater appreciation of Peruvian coffee both locally and internationally. Many of these proposals work directly with small producers from regions such as Cusco, Cajamarca, Junín, and Amazonas, prioritizing sustainable practices and highlighting unique flavor profiles in each cup. Additionally, coffee preparation has become a central part of the experience, with methods like V60, Chemex, French press, and signature espresso attracting an increasingly interested audience eager to learn about the origin and process of the product.
The nomination in the Somos Awards 2026 also reflects how coffee shops have become cultural and meeting spaces. Several combine high-quality coffee with artisanal bakery, signature pastries, and environments designed for sharing, working, or enjoying a break in the middle of the city.
What are the Somos Awards?
The Somos Awards are the gastronomic awards of the “Somos” magazine from the newspaper “El Comercio.” They have been given since 2023 as a way to recognize the culinary sector in all its dimensions.
They differ from other awards by being determined by popular vote. It is the public who helps us create a list of winners with their votes, a faithful reflection of what diners seek and want to try.
