In a country worldwide recognized for its gastronomy, Creole food continues to hold a privileged place. It is the one that accompanies important dates, the one usually recommended to those who want to get to know Peru through its cuisine, and the one that continues to conquer new generations without leaving behind those who grew up with its recipes. Its strength lies in that mix of tradition and evolution that has allowed it to remain relevant without losing its essence.
That is why there is no better time than July, the month of the National Holidays, to pay tribute to this cuisine that is part of our memory. The Somos Awards were born with the purpose of celebrating the country’s gastronomic diversity and recognizing the restaurants that, from different specialties, enrich the Peruvian culinary scene. In the Best Creole Food Restaurant category, the recognition seeks to highlight those places that preserve traditional recipes, reinterpret them with respect, or bring them closer to new audiences without losing what makes them unforgettable: the flavor.
Flavors to choose from
This year, readers will be able to vote for Candelo Comida Popular, Chicho, El Bolivariano, El Huarique de los Cuchitos, El Rincón que no Conoces, El Señorío de Sulco, Huaca Pucllana Restaurante, Jolgorio Comedor Criollo, La Nacional, or Panchita. Although each has its own personality, they share the same goal: to keep Creole cuisine alive from different perspectives. Some bet on preserving the spirit of the old picanterías and traditional restaurants; others explore contemporary presentations or rescue regional ingredients and preparations that broaden the way of understanding this cuisine.
