- The head of the Ministry of Housing, Construction and Sanitation (MVCS), Mauricio Arnillas, reported that the district of Villa El Salvador will be declared in a state of emergency after the floods it suffered due to the heavy rain on Sunday, August 16. In statements to RPP Noticias, he indicated that the measure would be in effect until the end of the year and will serve to complete the bypass and collector works, which have been collapsed for several years.
The National Meteorology and Hydrology Service of Peru (Senamhi) had warned of these conditions in its daily forecast, indicating that Lima would present “overcast to cloudy skies during the day with a tendency to moderate wind and drizzle,” a scenario that was finally recorded during the early morning and first hours of Sunday.
