Minister Elmer Cuba, who heads the Ministry of Economy and Finance in Keiko Fujimori’s government, commented this afternoon that the reduction in the number of ministries is indeed on the agenda. In an interview with RPP, Cuba confirmed that it is a topic under discussion.
“Yes, it is on the agenda, but preliminarily, the MEF has not yet given an opinion on it, but it is part of what is being discussed. When we have something to communicate, it will be in the appropriate instances,” he emphasized.
Although there are not many details on the matter yet, as he indicated, when asked if he considers this measure appropriate to improve government management, Cuba responded that “perhaps there are two or three very small ministries that could be subsumed (included in other portfolios).”

He adds that the function does not disappear, “since that function has always been held by another ministry. The question is how we provide the best service with smaller or larger and more powerful ministries, with better teams. The service itself is not in question, since someone has to carry it out,” he said.
In the interview, he clarified that although this measure is on the agenda, it is not urgent at this moment, given that there are other issues being prioritized such as the El Niño phenomenon, fuel, the Petro-Perú crisis, among other topics.
