The city of Lima recorded new historical maximum temperature records during July 2026, in a context marked by the current Coastal El Niño event, according to the National Meteorology and Hydrology Service of Peru (Senamhi).
The agency attached to the Ministry of the Environment detailed that the oceanic and atmospheric conditions associated with this phenomenon have caused an exceptional increase in daytime temperatures on the central coast of the country.

Senamhi explained that the anomalous warming of the sea, reinforced by the effect of a warm oceanic Kelvin wave, weakening of the South Pacific Anticyclone and the predominance of northern winds, favored a marked increase in maximum temperatures.
As a result, some sectors of Lima, such as La Molina, showed values up to +10.1°C above normal, one of the highest observed in July.

In this context, on July 25, the Alexander Von Humboldt station (La Molina) recorded a maximum temperature of 29.4°C, a value that exceeds the climatological average for July by +10.1°C and sets a new record for this month.
This record surpassed the previous record of 28.5 °C, reached just on July 13 of this year, evidencing the persistence and intensity of the current warm episode.

Heat wave
Meanwhile, the Campo de Marte station, located in Jesús María, reached a maximum temperature of 26.3 °C, with an anomaly of +8.2°C, while the International Airport (Callao) station reached 25.6°C, with an anomaly of +7.8°C.
It should be noted that both stations set their historical records for July on July 13 of this year, with maximum temperatures of 28.2 °C at Campo de Marte and 27.3 °C at the International Airport.

Likewise, Senamhi reported that the central coast continues under a persistent daytime heat wave. The International Airport station accumulates 45 consecutive days with warm temperatures, while the Campo de Marte station records 50 continuous days under these conditions.
From July 27 to 29, the entry of light to moderate intensity southern winds is expected, which will favor the presence of fog, mist, and drizzle during the early morning hours, generating a greater sensation of cold and localized reduction of visibility on the coast of Lima and Callao.

Meanwhile, wind gusts of up to 40 km/h are expected. Towards noon and during the afternoon, sunshine is expected. Maximum temperatures are expected to range between 26 °C and 28 °C.
