The Urban Transport Authority for Lima and Callao (ATU) will start tomorrow, Thursday, August 6, the pilot plan for the bidirectional bus lane on Arequipa Avenue for the Blue Corridor, which aims to benefit more than 70,000 daily passengers, doubling the commercial speed of buses (from 9 km/h to 18 km/h at peak hour) and reducing travel times from 10 to 6 minutes.

It will be applied on an initial stretch of 1.5 kilometers, from Av. 9 de Diciembre (Paseo Colón) to Jr. Emilio Fernández. It will operate continuously from 5:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m.
- Miraflores ➔ Downtown Lima (Exclusive for buses): It becomes completely bidirectional only for the Blue Corridor.
- Downtown Lima ➔ Miraflores (Private traffic): It remains north to south (towards Miraflores) for private cars and authorized transport.
Impact on bike lanes and green areas
On the 1.5 km stretch, the bike lane was relocated to the right side of the berm to enable the exclusive lane without reducing space for cyclists.
Detours due to bidirectional lane
Av. Petit Thouars has been designated as the main detour route for private traffic. Special vehicle passes will be managed for institutions and properties with direct access to the avenue within the intervened stretch.
Likewise, in this stretch the location of the bike lane on Arequipa Avenue will also be modified. All this within a period of 30 days, but if necessary, it could be extended by 2 or 3 more months.

It should be noted that the ATU specifies that the objective is to “neutralize unfair competition and blockages caused by unauthorized vehicles (collective and informal) that obstructed stops and slowed down the official fleet.”
