Rescuers found 25 bodies on Saturday following the sinking of a ferry in Lake Kariba this week in Zimbabwe, bringing the death toll to 72, according to the police.

The ferry, overloaded with passengers and operated by a government agency, capsized on Tuesday in rough waters in this border lake with Zambia.
This accident is one of the deadliest of its kind in the country’s history.
Authorities reported the recovery of 22 bodies in the early hours of Saturday and another three in the afternoon.

“The death toll from the sinking of the Kariba RIDA vessel is now 72”, the police said in a statement.
An earlier toll reported 46 dead.
According to authorities, the ferry was authorized to carry 90 passengers. The search continues as authorities fear an even higher toll.

Civil Protection reported on Wednesday the rescue of 77 people.
Lake Kariba is the largest artificial lake in the world in terms of volume.
