WILL THE AUGUST 12 TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE BE VISIBLE IN PERU?
No. The total solar eclipse of 2026 will not be visible from Peru. Totality will occur only within a specific band on the planet, so the Peruvian sky will not darken.
IN WHICH COUNTRIES WILL IT BE VISIBLE?
The path will cross areas of the northern hemisphere. The places where totality can be appreciated are:
- Greenland.
- Iceland.
- The Atlantic Ocean.
- Northern Russia.
- Spain.
- A small area of Portugal.
In those territories, the Moon will be positioned in front of the Sun and will temporarily hide its disk, allowing the solar corona to be seen and creating an appearance of dusk.
Totality occurs due to a coincidence: the Sun is about 400 times larger than the Moon, but it is about 400 times farther away.
SCHEDULE TO SEE THE AUGUST 12 TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE
According to information from the European Space Agency (ESA) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the totality phase of the eclipse will travel through different areas of the northern hemisphere. The phenomenon will begin in the Russian Arctic around 17:00 UTC, continue towards Greenland and Iceland, and later reach parts of northern Spain and northeastern Portugal during sunset. In Spanish cities such as Mallorca and Valencia, the total eclipse is expected at 20:31 and 20:32, respectively. Meanwhile, Madrid and Barcelona will have coverage close to 100%, although without reaching the complete darkness phase. In Lisbon, the Sun will be covered approximately 95%, while Paris and Milan will record coverage close to 92%.
