“I do not believe that (the troops) are in danger. We have the best defense and the best attack ever seen,” affirmed Trump.

The president called a possible withdrawal at this time “senseless” because the US might “have to use” the troops.

So far, the official toll of the conflict amounts to 13 US service members killed in incidents directly linked to hostilities. “We have lost 13 people here and that is a lot. Thirteen people are too many,” Trump admitted.

However, the president clarified that “if you look at Vietnam, where hundreds of thousands of people died, or any of the last seven or eight wars (…), we lost 13. It is less than anyone would have imagined.”

On March 1, six soldiers lost their lives after an Iranian attack against the port of Shuaiba, in Kuwait. Subsequently, on March 8, another soldier died as a result of an offensive by Tehran against Prince Sultan Air Base, in Saudi Arabia.

The last incident occurred on March 12, when six uniformed personnel died when a US Air Force KC-135 Stratotanker refueling plane crashed in western Iraq.
